Tutorial - How to Extract Text from Image (Image OCR)?

The only two things you'll need:


Optical character recognition (OCR) is a system of converting scanned printed/handwritten image files into its machine readable text format. It works by analyzing a document and comparing it with fonts stored in its database and/or by noting features typical to characters. All Free OCR provides accurate OCR to extract text you need from images to save hours of copying notes!

step 1. download and run image ocr software

Click here to download Image OCR Software and install it. Double-click the icon to launch the program.


Step 2. Input an image file

Click "OCR" tab and "Load Image" to choose the image file you want to convert and click "Open" to input it to the program window.

Step 3. Start OCR

When the file on the preview window, click "Zoom out/Zoom in/Fit Width/Fit Page" to get a better view of the file. The bigger the preview, the more accurate result text you get. Thus, we suggest you zoom in as much as possible. Use "Previous/Next" to preview the pages one by one. Click "OCR" and you'll get the text extracted from the image file.

Step 4. Save text

The extracted text will display in the text window in several seconds. You can find some documents tools on the right top. "Clear Text Window" is to delete all of the text and there is "Remove Line Breaks" button for easier editing. You can also click "Copy all Texts to Clipboard" to copy text in order to place it into the application of your choice. Click "Export Text into Microsoft Word" to output the extracted text in Word, then you can save it as Word document. To save the extracted text as *.txt, click "Save Text".
